Private 1:1 online coaching for young people

Confidence, conversation and presence for children who need more than tutoring.

For parents who want their child to speak naturally, think independently, build confidence and develop the communication skills that schools and tutors often do not teach.

Young Confidence supports primary and secondary students with the social confidence, conversational ability, interview preparation, public speaking and leadership skills that help them stand out.

“I founded Young Confidence because many young people receive excellent academic support, yet still struggle to express themselves clearly, hold natural conversations, ask thoughtful questions and carry themselves with confidence. This is not typical English language tutoring. It is premium online coaching for the confidence, presence and social tools that help a young person feel capable in the real world.”
Why this is different

The four foundations below explain the difference.

These are the skills parents often assume school will teach, but which are rarely developed in a focused, personal and confidence-led way.

Young Confidence is not built around worksheets, grammar correction or another hour of academic tutoring. It is built around the moments that actually shape confidence: how a child enters a conversation, how they hold eye contact, how they answer when put on the spot, how they explain an idea and how they recover when they feel nervous.

Natural conversation

Helping young people move beyond short answers and rehearsed phrases. They learn how to listen, respond, ask follow-up questions, tell stories, join discussions and keep conversations alive with adults and peers.

Presence and eye contact

Developing the visible signals of confidence: posture, tone, calmness, eye contact, facial expression and the ability to look comfortable even when speaking to someone older, louder or more confident.

Independent thinking

Encouraging students to form opinions, explain their reasoning and think beyond memorised answers. The aim is to help them sound thoughtful, curious and genuinely engaged rather than simply correct.

Confidence under pressure

Practising the moments that make children freeze: being asked a question unexpectedly, speaking in front of others, meeting new people, interviews, presentations and unfamiliar social situations.

More Than a Tutor

Many international students speak very good English and can pass English exams. Far fewer can hold a natural conversation confidently, ask thoughtful questions, speak without freezing, explain their ideas clearly and carry themselves well in unfamiliar social or academic settings.

Closer to coaching

The work is practical, interactive and human. Students practise real conversation, structured thinking, speaking under pressure, adult interaction and the confidence to join discussions rather than hide from them.

The founder

A polished British communication background,
with real-world experience.

Dean Close School
Dean Close SchoolA Dean Close School education, shaped by high standards, manners, sport, drama, public speaking and the confidence-building culture of a British independent-school background.
University of Manchester
University of ManchesterI graduated with a degree in Business, Economic and Finance with a Marketing specialism. That academic background supports the commercial thinking, clear explanation and structured communication behind Young Confidence. Both my siblings graduated from Oxford University.
Professional communication
Career experience that directly supports confidence coachingMy career has been built around communication under pressure: asking intelligent questions, building trust quickly and presenting ideas clearly. That is the same skill set I now teach young people in an age-appropriate, confidence-building way.

Why this matters for your child

Before Young Confidence, my work involved thousands of high-level conversations with academics, healthcare professionals, senior executives, entrepreneurs, government figures and elite sport organisations. This was not classroom theory; it was real-world communication: how to ask better questions, hold attention, explain an idea clearly, read a conversation, adapt tone and build confidence with different people.

Wellbeing International

I led global commercial strategy for a cutting-edge exosome therapy used in elite sports medicine and regenerative health, working directly with people and organisations across the NFL, NHL, Premier League and boxing. That required credibility, clarity, confidence and the ability to communicate complex science in plain English.

Independent Television News (ITN)

I helped build news-style programmes in collaboration with international professional associations across science, healthcare and policy. This taught me how to shape a message, interview people properly and make serious subjects clear, engaging and accessible.

WebsEdge

I specialised in selling documentary-style research films to global scientific institutions and universities, pitching thousands of academics, healthcare professionals and government officials. In practical terms, it was like conducting 3,000+ professional conversations: listening closely, asking thoughtful questions and helping people present themselves and their work with confidence.

How this becomes coaching

Young Confidence takes those adult communication skills and translates them for children and teenagers: speaking naturally, asking better questions, holding conversations, presenting ideas, managing nerves, building presence and feeling more comfortable with adults, peers and new environments.

Two clear pathways

Young Confidence separates primary-school confidence from secondary-school confidence.

A 7-year-old in primary school does not need the same coaching as a 16-year-old preparing for interviews, leadership opportunities and adult conversations. Young Confidence is built around two distinct developmental stages, so parents immediately see the programme that matches their child.

Ages 7–11

Primary Confidence

Warm, interactive coaching for children building social confidence before the move into bigger school environments. The emphasis is conversation, eye contact, curiosity, speaking to adults and feeling more comfortable in themselves.

Ages 11–16+

Secondary Confidence

Mature coaching for teenagers navigating a more complicated social world. The emphasis is self-expression, interviews, presentations, leadership, maturity, group confidence and future readiness.

Primary Confidence

For children aged 7–11
building confidence before the jump up.

Primary-age children need warmth, structure and practice. The focus is not teenage pressure or university preparation; it is helping a child become more socially comfortable, less screen-dependent, better at speaking to adults and more prepared for the bigger world of secondary school.

“At primary age, confidence is still being formed. The right conversations can change how a child sees themselves.”
1

Social confidence

Conversation practice, listening, turn-taking, eye contact and learning how to speak naturally with adults and peers.

2

Independence and presence

Helping children answer without freezing, express preferences, ask questions and feel less overshadowed by louder personalities.

3

Secondary-school Preparation

Preparing for new teachers, new friendship groups, bigger expectations and the emotional jump from child to young teenager.

Warm, genuine and great with children

The approach is calm, encouraging and confidence-building. The child often does not realise they are being coached because the work is disguised inside games, role play, storytelling and relaxed conversation.

What a typical session looks like

Very interactive. I spend less time teaching and much more time practising confidence through:

  • Conversation games and storytelling
  • Role play and confidence exercises
  • Eye contact practice
  • Asking and answering better questions
  • Public speaking mini-challenges
  • Learning to talk to adults
  • Learning how to join conversations

Example topic: Asking better questions

A child might spend 20 minutes pretending to be a professional athlete, a scientist, a teacher, a doctor or a business leader. Through that role play, they learn how to keep a conversation alive, ask follow-up questions, listen properly and respond with confidence. The approach is gentle, natural and confidence-led.

Secondary Confidence

For 11–16-year-olds
who need confidence in a more complicated social world.

Secondary school changes everything. Friendship groups matter more, comparison increases, identity becomes fragile and students are expected to speak, present, interview and lead with more maturity.

Secondary Confidence helps teenagers develop the communication habits that support school, relationships, interviews and future opportunities.

What this stage develops

  • Presence and maturity
  • Interview and presentation confidence
  • Leadership communication
  • Confidence in groups
  • Networking and adult conversation
  • University and future readiness

Teenage self-expression

Helping students sound thoughtful, confident and authentic rather than awkward, overly rehearsed or silent.

Interview and presentation confidence

Building calm answers, clearer structure, better listening and the ability to speak to adults without shrinking.

Leadership and maturity

Developing the language of responsibility, curiosity and presence for students who want to be taken seriously.

What a session looks like

Sessions are more mature and practical. Topics might include how to speak in meetings, challenge ideas respectfully, leadership communication, networking, personal branding, presentations and debate.

Example topic: Explaining ideas clearly

A student might spend an hour discussing AI, climate change, politics, business or social media, then learn how to structure arguments, speak without filler words, defend opinions and think critically. This starts looking more like executive coaching than tutoring.

Who this is for

Designed for capable young people
who need confidence, not more pressure.

Young Confidence is for parents who can see that their child has ability, but needs more practice with confidence, conversation, presence and real-world communication.

For children who are:

  • Academically capable but socially hesitant
  • Shy with adults
  • Nervous speaking in groups
  • Over-reliant on screens
  • Preparing for interviews, presentations or secondary transition

Not for:

  • Grammar tutoring
  • Exam English
  • Children needing clinical therapy
I am approachable and free to speak anytime. If you have any questions, ongoing concerns or particular focus points for your child, I am one phone call away.

The Outcome I Aim For

Young Confidence is a new venture, and I believe strongly in honesty and transparency.

Rather than filling this website with manufactured reviews or exaggerated claims, I would prefer to let the quality of my work speak for itself.

The words below are not a testimonial from a parent. They are an illustration of the kind of feedback I hope to earn through genuine work with students and families over the years ahead.

If a parent were to describe their child's experience with Young Confidence in this way, I would be absolutely delighted.

“My son was academically strong and had always done well at school, but as he approached secondary school we realised confidence was becoming a bigger issue than academics. He struggled to join conversations, was hesitant around new people, and often held back despite having plenty to say.

My son became much more comfortable speaking to adults, asking thoughtful questions and expressing his opinions clearly. One of his teachers even commented on his increased willingness to participate in class, which made the transition into secondary school far smoother than we expected.

What impressed me most was that Charles never tried to change who he was. He simply helped him become a more confident version of himself. The sessions were tailored to his personality and, although my son was hesitant at first, he soon began looking forward to them each week.

As parents, we already invest significantly in school fees and academic support, but there are very few investments that have had such a visible impact on our child's development. Charles gave my son skills that will benefit him not just in secondary school, but at university and throughout his adult life.”
